Project Overview (online source here)

This project is aimed at improving traffic circulation and mobility for pedestrians and bicyclists on Third Street between Indian School Road and Garfield Street. The roadway modifications contained in the conceptual plan for Third Street include:

  • reducing the number of travel lanes
  • adding bicycle lanes on both sides of the street
  • landscape enhancements
  • street lighting upgrades
  • sidewalk and ADA improvements
  • safer street crossings for pedestrians

This project was initiated from the Third Street Promenade Study, Reinvent Phoenix Mid-Town transit district planning, community feedback and the Downtown Phoenix Comprehensive Transportation Study (DPCTS). The DPCTS was undertaken to identify and evaluate potential roadway, transit, bicycle, pedestrian, and parking improvements associated with Phoenix’s downtown street and transportation system. The recommendations from the DPCTS resulted from studying a variety of transportation-related elements in the city’s core, interviews with stakeholders, and meetings with community focus groups.

Provide your ideas about Phoenix’s transportation future…

????????????????????????????????Talk Transportation is a project of the Phoenix Public Transit and Street Transportation Departments to visualize the future of public transportation and streets. The ideas and comments generated from the site will be reviewed by the Citizens Committee on the Future of Phoenix Transportation and potentially incorporated in future improvement plans and programming for public transportation and streets.

What should the City’s streets look like, how do we connect people to their destinations, and how do we fund the future? Phoenix need your BIG ideas!

All of your ideas are going to help the City of Phoenix:

  1. Develop a draft long range, public transportation plan
  2. Identify and match funding sources to proposed projects and plans
  3. Identify critical issues and needs for street improvements
  4. Present a citizen-led recommendation to the Mayor and Council on the future of transportation in Phoenix

If you drive, bus, rail, bike, or walk this affects you and how you travel, Take a minute to sign up and post an idea, comment, photo, or video.
